With 2010 drawing to a close, it's time for a taster of what's coming in the New Year.
A number of major IT projects have recently kicked off, with the University Portal project starting in November. The Portal project aims to bring information from a number of systems into a single place, making it easier for students to access up-to-date information.
Our E-mail and Calendaring provision is also being reviewed, with the aim to implement a new system for staff and students over the next year. An updated platform will provide a better webmail facility with larger amounts of e-mail storage, support for different e-mail clients and improved mobile device support.
The Harry Fairhurst building (formerly the home of the Computer Science Department) will open in Easter 2010. The building will provide a number of new IT-rich learning and study spaces for students and researchers, complemented by on-site IT, Library and Academic support, and will be linked directly to the JB Morrell Library.
On a final note, the Directorate recently won a JISC Bid looking at ICT Strategy, which will provide useful input for us on mananging our IT projects going forward.
